In response to the high rate of opioid-related addiction and deaths in Colorado, the Colorado General Assembly created the Opioid and Other Substance Use Disorders Study Committee.

During the 2019 session, the Colorado General Assembly considered several pieces of legislation related to state health programs, behavioral and mental health, reducing health care costs, hospital transparency, and advance directives.

Geothermal energy refers to heat that is found within the Earth.  This heat can be used in a number of ways through geothermal energy systems.  First, it can be used to directly heat buildings, where hot water near the earth’s surface is piped into buildings.  Second, it can be used indirectly using ground source heat pumps, which transfer heat from the ground or hot water reservoirs into buildings in the winter, a process that is reversed in the summer to cool buildings.  And finally, steam from hot water reservoirs can be used to generate electricity.

This memorandum summarizes the primary funding changes for school finance that were enacted during the 2022 legislative session.  Several bills enacted substantively impacted the financing of public schools in Colorado.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), isolation and quarantine help protect the public by preventing exposure to people who have or may have a contagious disease.  Isolation separates sick people with a communicable disease from people who are not sick, while quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick.

During the 2017 legislative session, the General Assembly considered measures related to the sunset review of the Division of Insurance, insurance fraud, life insurance cash surrender value, financial examinations and market conduct examinations, and self-storage insurance.

During the 2019 legislative session, the General Assembly considered three bills to encourage employment and job retention and ensure access to apprenticeship programs for workers in Colorado.

During the 2019 legislative session, the General Assembly considered several bills regulating professions and occupations including legislation addressing registered athletic trainers, genetic counselors, and sign language interpreters.   New laws expand and clarify licensure requirements for plumbers, barbers and cosmetologists, emergency medical technicians, and motor vehicle and powersport vehicle wholesalers, as well as recodify regulation of community association managers.  Finally, the General Assembly continued regulation of certified public accountants and electrician
